SLOVIANSKI: origin, slovianski-n, slovianski-s, slovianski-gs, modern slovianski, current version of slovianski

The creator of Slovio (Mark Hucko) has been thinking about a way to create a simplified Slavic language since 1984, when he had created Blitz English. The idea how this could be technically accomplished first dawned upon him in 1999 when Slovio was born. In order to encourage input and experimentation the Slovio creators have sponsored a forum website, where anybody, even anonymous contributors could make their ideas known: blognik.com About 5 years after the creation of Slovio, during discussions on the Slovio-sponsored blognik.com website there sprung up several "naturalistic" Slovio variants, under various names such as:

The idea of these Slovio-variants, was to make a Slovio variant with a "naturalistic" grammar. To make the grammar as "natural" or as "Slavic" as possible. The problem many of these "naturalistic" Slovio variants have to deal with is that the more "natural" is the grammar, the more complicated, the more difficult and studded with exceptions it has become. So while these naturalistic Slovio-variants are slightly easier to comprehend by Slavic speakers than the standard Slovio grammar, they have become much harder to learn, not only for Slavic speakers but especially for non-Slavs.

Often these "naturalistic Slovio-variants" use gender in all nouns, use different endings for male and female, and irregular and complicated tenses. Numerous analysts point out that the slightly more "natural feel" to these variants is negatively impacted by the vastly more complicated grammar.

A further drawback of some of these Slovio clones is that they do not use just the basic 27 letters of latinic alphabet, but use diacritics and non-standard alphabets. This is directly contrary to the Slovio goal of an interslavic language which one can write and read on any computer.

Some of the perpetrators of these "naturalistic" Slovio variants have become very politicized. Their perpetrators and supporters have been predominantly non-Slavs or persons with antislavic sentiment. It appears that their goal is contrary to the Slovio goal of cultural exchange and understanding with and among Slavs. In fact they often appear to attempt to drive a wedge between Slavs of different political and cultural views. Their behaviour follows millenia old anti-Slavic tradition of "divide and rule" which had been used against Slavs over and over again.

Just like all other languages we expect Slovio to change, adapt and evolve with times. The official Slovio grammar and vocabulary are solid, precise and non-ambiguous, but they should be considered only as a start as a base of further development. Your contribution and your daily use of Slovio will help us to achieve perfection.
